Cllr David Fothergill (Monkton and North Curry)

David Fothergill is County Councillor for Monkton and North Curry Division and is also Leader of Somerset County Council. He has also served as Chairman of the County Council and as Cabinet Member with responsibility for Highways and Transport.

Having worked across the UK, David moved with his family to Taunton over 25 years ago. In business he has been involved in a wide range of Companies including for a period having full responsibility for 2,500 vulnerable residents in forty-six elderly care homes. Most recently David was Director of HR for a large Somerset based company with thirty-five employment sites across the country.

In addition to his County Council duties David has twice been Chairman of Stoke St. Mary Parish Council, a Governor of Creech St Michael Primary School and Chair of a local fundraising group.  He is currently a Executive Member of the County Council Network,  a Member of the Local Government Association General Assembly and Chair of the Heart of the South West Devolution Group.

During his two years as Chairman of the County Council David raised £36,000 towards a number of national and local Charities including Somerset Trust for Arts and Recreation and the National Autistic Society.

In his spare time David enjoys time camping with his family, anything ‘history ‘ and he is also the commentator of various local events including Taunton Flower Show, Taunton Marathon, Taunton Carnival and Creech St Michael ‘Party in the Park’.   

David is married with two grown up children.
