Roger is currently a Taunton Deane Borough Councillor, representing the Halcon ward since 2013, he is married to Sue who runs a local Bed & Breakfast in Halcon.
He was born in Tipperary, Southern Ireland. At the age of 15 he joined the forces, and saw active service with the Royal Marines, in both the Falklands Conflict and the first Gulf War. In 1991 he left the Royal Navy after a 27 year career.
Since moving to Taunton, Roger has run a taxi firm and now runs a Private Hire Airport Transport Service business. He strongly believes that if you have the time and can do something for your community, then you should take up the challenge and get involved. Now that he is semi-retired he is a volunteer “Social Care and Hospital Driver” for the NHS and Somerset County Council. Much of his work comes from the Halcon area, he sees at first-hand the importance of community help for the sick and vulnerable.
In the past Roger has made several trips to Albania with “Taunton Albanian Aid”, delivering donations of medical supplies to many schools and orphanages. Whilst there, he and a local Taunton vet also delivered veterinary supplies and treated hundreds of donkeys.
Roger enjoys cycling and decided to combined his love of cycling with raising money for a cancer charity. It took him four days to cycle to London thereby raising over £2,000.
